Bruce Smith and I met in the mid 1990 when I went to interview his friend, ex Argonaut, Gene Clarke. Bruce was a retired former Toronto Argonaut himself and had become a top real estate agent in Canada. This huge man who had a larger heart impressed me as one of the most charismatic and caring individuals I have ever met. As time went by, I interviewed Bruce several times about his work with “at risk children” through The King Bay Chaplaincy and his book; ” Father to the Fatherless.”
Bruce Smith and his wife, Shirley also became close friends to my family. Bruce and I were also business partners. He was a very, very special man that unfortunately left this world on January 3rd., 2013 after his courageous battle with liver cancer.
George Marcello from; “The By Step” has walked across most parts of the world to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. I was pleased to have interviewed George several times and to get to know, “how one man on a mission could inspire so many lives”. George became a good friend and I was pleased to have introduced Bruce Smith to George. Mr. Smith’s dedication to support George’s incredible treks on foot, developed a close personal friendship between these two men and everyday heroes.
